This watch cap was a modification from its original plan as a sockhead hat, a more stocking hat-ish style cap. I thought perhaps I would like the elongated look of the stocking hat, but it looked too elongated for me.

Though on Gram, it looks simply adorable.

This simple hat is a great project for those times when all you want to do is just knit and knit and knit some more. Think bedside knitting (or t.v. knitting, if you dare) since you’re working with fingering-weight yarn and will want to make sure you don’t accidentally drop a stitch (or two, like I did).
Cast on 160 with fingering weight yarn (~250yds) and US2 16″ needles. Work K2P2 rib for ~5 inches. Knit every round until piece measures ~ 7 inches. Begin decrease by *k18, k2tog, place marker* for 1st round and plain knit next round. For subsequent decrease rounds, *knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog*. Switch to double-pointed needles when circumference gets tight. Continue decrease and plain rounds until 40 sts remain. Decrease on every round until 8 sts remain. Weave 8″tail through remaining sts.
For a smaller or larger hat, increase cast on sts by multiples of 8 sts.
Happy Knitting!
