Traveling

Over the weekend, Eric, Hector (our grey kitty), Maggie (our chocolate lab), and I headed down to Arkansas to attend Eric’s sister’s college graduation and visit family for Mother’s Day.  Though it was short, it was a nice respite from St. Louis and gave us a chance to get out of the house for a few days.

Maggie, who is now 8 y/o, has never experienced a day without Toby, seemed to have had a tough week following Toby’s passing and so was thrilled to be overloved by my sisters during her overnight with my family.   We think it was just what she needed.  She seemed to have a bit more spring in her walk during our neighborhood stroll the other day.

Traveling also gave me a chance to get back to my knitting.  I finally finished my April socks!

The initial idea for these were to imitate my friend, Siri’s, traveling eyelet pattern in her April socks, but with cables instead.  I have the notes on how to create these traveling cables somewhere.  As soon as I can locate them, I’ll post them.

As always, I knitted these knee-highs until the yarn ran out.  There was about four inches left.

During the drive down to Arkansas, I also began the May socks.  As a way to destash, I am using the balls of  5-ply Guernsey wool bought last summer at Meg Swansen’s Knitting Camp.  It has a wonderful, tight twist and if I could retail it, I would (maybe I should look into that).

I initially wanted to make EZ’s stockings (from The Opinionated Knitter) or Meg Swansen’s stockings (from Meg Swansen’s Knitting) but realized I didn’t have the right gauged yarn.

Oh, well.  Two-2 stripes were worked instead, and stitches were moved over by one for each new row.  My dilemma right now is figuring out how to increase for the calf while maintaining the pattern.  I guess it’s time to start on the second sock.

Sounds like you all had a fine weekend.
    Congratulations to your sister-in-law.

Can you teach me your knitting speed secret?
