Ever since reading Alligators, Old Mink & New Money by Alison Houtte several years ago, I’ve been crazy about all things vintage. The book just struck a chord with me. It may have been that also at this time in my life, I fell more in love with the outdoors (thanks to backpacking in the Rockies) and everything nature. Vintage represented to me the mentality of reduce, reuse, recycle.
In fact, I loved the book so much that I told myself if ever I opened up a knit shop, I would call it Knitty Couture after Alison’s shop, Hooti Couture. …..Well, whatta ya know?
I’m also trying to find any single business-related excuse to go to Brooklyn to visit Alison’s shop. I fear I might just blow all my money. Every single penny of it. Regardless of what the hubby might say… or do.
Since, I’ve become an avid collector of vintage knitting and crocheting magazines/patterns/books, and frequent browser of various vintage webshops and blogs. The patterns are simply classic. Absolutely couture! Several projects inspired by these classic designs are currently on the needles.
Here are some of my finds.
