With the snow day earlier this week, I took the time to sit down and finally finish the socks that have been on the needles for much too long.
Hubby had been asking for thick socks so these, knitted in Dream in Color Classy worsted, were perfect. Simple ribbing and a cushy seed stitch bottom made his day.
Knitting thick socks suits me just fine because I’ve come to the conclusion that I can no longer use fingering weight yarn for socks. It seems knitting tightly on small needles (e.g., 0s & 1s) gives me joint pains….. duh. I’m more than happy to stick to heavier weights .
With that said, I present my last (we’ll see) pair of fingering socks. These were knitted in Fortissima Socka in 11 Mexiko Country. Plain stockinette, I feel, is best for busy colorways since any form of pattern will detract from the colors and frankly, wouldn’t really be visible anyway.
I try to keep at least one pair of socks on the needles since they’re so portable, and I can knit them while waiting on hubby to do his browsing at Lowe’s (FUN!). My next project will be with these, Jitterbug in copperbeach. Only I won’t actually be knitting socks. Ever since November, I’ve been wanting to knit legwarmers (a bit late, but who cares) so after talking with Siri about them, I’m finally going to do it. Hopefully, since Jitterbug is closer to a sportweight, I won’t have to knit as tightly.
On a side note, now that I’ve finished the socks, there are only (hold your breath) three projects on the needle. THREE!! Amazingly, I seemed to have achieved the Rule of 3.
Unfortunately, it won’t last for long. Within the next week, I’ll probably cast on for at least two other pieces.
