… ’cause there’re plenty others to help collect the dust.
Aside from knitting (and my hubby), my other love is reading. However, as my time and attention have been consumed by the shop, I’ve lost the interest to sit down and read those wonderful books that have been sitting on my bedside table, on the coffee table, on my list-to-read, in the study. Oh, dear.
A part of me thinks that if I continue the book stacking, perhaps I’ll finally be motivated to pick up a lucky one and begin reading.
It hasn’t been as successful as I had hoped.
It’s been challenging to not allow the care of the shop overwhelm me and consume all my time though I really can’t complain. It has been absolutely wonderful. Once Spring arrives, however, it will be even more difficult to balance my time between the shop, knitting, reading, gardening and everything else in my life. Hmmm. Perhaps the challenge is actually time management.
A fantastic motivation to get back into reading is to start a book club, which friends of the shop have expressed great interest in. The last time I was in a book club was during graduate school, and I’ve missed it since. … As sad as it sounds, I’ll now have an excuse to set aside time for reading.
There was debate over whether the book topics should focus primarily on knitting, but I’d just hate to limit our literature to one topic. The focus, rather, should be on literature itself.
In college, I borrowed The Jungle by Upton Sinclair from a friend and will shamelessly admit that I still have the copy and have not read it. That, my friend, was years (YEARS!) ago. Oh, the humiliation! Fortunately, for me, the owner of the book is actually my best friend whom I still keep in touch with and doesn’t mind that I’ve kept the book for much longer than what is socially acceptable.
The Jungle has been on my list of books to read for years (obviously) and perhaps now is better than never (obviously).
Oh, how fun this will be!
Join us every 3rd Tuesday, 5:00 - 8:00pm, to discuss the current book, socialize, and knit. We’ll begin on Tuesday, Mar. 18th. Perhaps at this first meeting, we can discuss the first 3 chapters.. Wine and treats are welcomed!

Hi! I’ll try to rustle up my copy and join you! Can we bring knitting too?
Yes, of course! Hopefully, we won’t end up knitting more than we discuss!
