Our knitter friend, Beth, came to us early in November and asked us to help her knit a winter hat. The little bit of swatching she did indicated that her gauge was 5.5 sts/in. We casted on the appropriate number of stitches (i.e., 124) and set her on her way.
As she was knitting along, we discovered that her “hat” was looking, shall we say, a bit ginormous? We measured the gauge. Surprise! Surprise! The gauge was 3 sts/in.
Rather than ripping, Beth was determined not to feel that her time was wasted, and continued knitting. Instead of a hat, she will simply knit a sweater.
Introducing “Beth’s Sweater”. Yes, this is the title of the garment. Customized shaping created a wonderfully fitting sweater vest. The initial plan was to add ribbed edging to the shoulder straps and collar, but Beth’s told us she has had enough. She wants to make a hat.
Um, should we say that, based on her gauge, we advised a suitable number of stitches (i.e., 90), and the current “hat” is even larger than this sweater? LOL!!!!!!!
The yarn for both sweaters is Berroco Peruvia, needle size US 8.
