We began the cast-on for the pi shawl last Thursday, using Emily Ocker’s circular beginning (which I love!). There was quite a turn-out. Approximately 16 knitters came by to cast-on, visit, and laugh. Even better was yesterday when additional knitters came to join (third picture).
All this activity may explain why my shawl is still pretty small - but very cute. The only time this piece received any attention was during the knit along evenings. Poor thing.
I can’t much say the same for the other knitters. Some are so far along on their piece that I’ve had to threatened them to stop. You know who you are. If you’re done with your shawl before me, I’m going to force you to make another one…. though I’m not sure this actually counts as punishment.
The first picture is of the shawl before the night’s knit along. The next two pics show my progress…. not very much, eh?
I love knitting this piece. Love it! Love it! Love it! The yarn, which is Blue Sky Alpaca sportweight, is great and just lovely to work with. The pattern is simple and relaxing to knit. I’m tempted to just push aside all my other projects and do nothing else but this.

What yarn are you using for your shawl? I’ll be in the store tomorrow for some alpaca.
