If not, or even if you have and would like to do another, Knitty Couture will begin a Afghan Knit Along beginning the 4th Sunday in Jan - the 27th.
Barbara Walker wrote a wonderful book, Learn to Knit Afghan, in which she presents patterns for 63 delightful squares, all uniquely different, and offers knitters the opportunity to learn various knitting techniques, such as cabling, colorwork, twisted stitches, lace, and much more as they knit their afghan. The best thing about Ms. Walker’s book is that she kindly sizes the squares for you so that when it is time for you to seam, you’re not cursing because your side stitches aren’t adding up.
I had quite an unsuccessful experience knitting an afghan years ago, which also involved knitting squares of various stitch patterns but resulted in wretched seaming due to unequal number of side stitches, multiple ripping, a lot of cursing, and a bit of self therapy. It’s best I not revisit the past.
However, after looking through Barbara’s book, I’m tempted to try my hands again with another, perhaps, more successful, piece.
Because quite a number of Barbara’s squares involve color knitting, I’ve been exploring ways to creatively play with color in the afghan. In a home design book I recently viewed, an embroidered pillow in shades of dark green and gold sparked my interest. Considering the large range of green Cascade 220 strung on the shop wall, I think I am inspired to knit my squares in shades of green with hints of gold.
Because there are 63 squares, this will indeed be a year-long, if not longer, project. The Knit Along will be held every Sunday, beginning Jan. 27th, 2:00pm - 4:00pm, and will continue indefinitely - because we all know that as much as we would like to devote every waking (and sleeping) hour to knitting, we simply can’t. One square at a time will do just fine. Join us. Bring your tea or coffee, treats, your needles, yarn, and yourself!

I have been too chicken to try colorwork and a few other techniques - this seems like a good way to jump in!
What time on Sundays?
Oops! Forgot to include that in the post, didn’t I? The Knit Along will go on from 2:00pm -4:00pm.
It is definitely a fantastic way to introduce yourself to new knitting techniques. Because the afghan is made up of squares, you can go at your own pace as well!
Hi there!
I promise to bring in my afghan when I return from my trip! Great to meet you today!
