Sex and the City - The Carrie B.

Draft of sweater cardigan

This cardigan was inspired by one worn by Carrie in the fourth season of Sex and the City In one particular episode, Carrie dates a jazz player and after one of their dates, they’re seen strolling down the street to her apartment, blasting makeshift jazz tunes from the top of their lungs.

As soon as I saw her cardigan, I drew it up immediately and began the pattern for it - perhaps the latter came much later, but I did draw it up immediately. Features I wanted to incorporate were a high collar, trimming, aran cables and designs, and bold edge ribbing, particularly for the sleeves.

The cardigan was knitted on needle size 10.5 in Rowan Little Big Wool in quartz and the chocolate edging was crocheted on with Big Wool in acer.

It took me some time to decide specifically what kind of designs I wanted to incorporate. I must admit that for a while, there was some internal debating over whether there were too many bobbles, and even up to the last minute of finishing, I wondered if the brown edging was going to look a bit funny and out of place.

I will admit now that I am quite happy with the result. The collar perks up nicely, and the chocolate brings a new dimension to the, otherwise plain, cream garment. The only change I would make, though, is a bit more shaping on the sleeves since they are a bit bulky. Notes were taken during the knitting process so perhaps in the future, a pattern for the Carrie B. will be available.

I (still) think it looks great! Also, thanks for staying open in the snow! It was an adventure getting home that Saturday night - lots of slow traffic.

See you on a January Sunday!

Oh, very nice. This definitely needs to grow up to be a pattern.

I have the notes scribbled in the sketch pad. Turning it into a easy-to-understanding might be a bit of a challenge…. but I will try.

I just heard about your shop from my mother-in-law who writes for the Skinker DeBaliviere Times. I can’t wait to come in and visit. I love this sweater. Please create a pattern for it. I would be first in line to buy.
