A Very Warm Hat by Ms. Elizabeth Z. is a customer favorite, partially for its reversibility. It is actually two hats connected at the hem. Purl stitches are picked up at the bottom of the first hat and knitted to begin the second hat.

This pattern can be found in Elizabeth’s Knitting Around and was a delight to knit.
For this hat, I used two colors of Cascade 220. Only one skein of each color was needed. There was also plenty left over should you want to knit something small.

I like this very warm hat so much, in fact, that I’ve started on another using shades of blue.

There are also two berets on display. The first is a beige beret knitted with a worsted merino yarn recycled from a store sweater. This beret was quite easy to knit and was completed on double points.
I had offered to provide the pattern on the website, but I failed to take notes during my knitting, and I can’t, for the life of me, figure out the pattern correctly.
I made crude notes afterwards which didn’t make a lot sense. They will, however, still be used so that the beret can be knitted up again and hopefully, the second one will turn out the same.
The blue beret was knitted by Sam Kleinman and was semi-felted which gives it a wonderful, soft look. Stop by the shop anytime when Sam’s here to inquire about the pattern.
I find myself having quite a fondness for berets and tams right now that I’ve begun another with a sportweight alpaca. The actual pattern design is still in the works….. and I promise to keep notes this time.
