On the Needles and On Display: Socks

Mock cables, otherwise known as baby cables, are one of my favorite patterns to knit, particularly for socks. The pattern is very simple, easy to memorize, and works well for socks due to its ribbing character.

These socks are knitted with Creatively Dyed Yarn. Dianne’s dye work is simply amazing. Sometimes she goes for subtle hues while at other times, she goes for bold and bright. The colorwork, called Exotic Flowers - Coffee, is a favorite of mine.

The mock cable design was also used for these socks, which were knitted quite a long time ago. As you can see, rather than fingering, I used a worsted weight. I actually prefer the heavier weight, not because they’re quicker to knit up, but because I like thick socks.

I particularly liked the toe shaping and how the ribbing carried itself to the very tip. Also, the foot bottom was knitted in the same way as the heel (i.e., s1, k1 on one row and purl the next). This creates a doubling of the yarn which makes for a super-cushy bottom.

I can’t remember exactly what the yarn was. I think it was a tweed by Encore - can’t find the label. Pattern for both to come soon. These socks can be viewed at the shop.
